Oats and Yoga

Posted in Breakfast tagged at 6:42 am by jaweber

Happy Friday everyone! It feels so great to actually have some time in the morning whereas being so rushed to get to school every morning by 7:15! I can actually sit and enjoy my breakfast without shoveling it in while watching the clock!! This morning I had my favorite again–-steel cut oats with banana and peanut butter. And a cup of coffee. I’m eating a pretty late lunch today (around 2) because I am going to a 12:00 bikram yoga class. I know that I will be having a snack in a few hours to keep me fueled up!  Lunch will be whatever I can scavenge at my parent’s house and then dinner tonight is a suprise!! Even I don’t know!

About 370 calories…and I will be eating a snack later this morning!

I wanted to blog for a second on post-christmas eating guilt (or anytime for that matter!). Guys, I think one of the most important things we all have to learn is whatever happened last night or last week is in the past! Today is a brand new day and you can choose to do with it whatever you like. I don’t want to hear any of you ever beating yourself up for something that happened in the past because there is just no point—you can’t change it! The only thing you can do now is just go forward, exercise and eat right. And feel great!! I have been in many situations where I have either drank too much or eaten to much the night before and then (seriously) laid in bed all night long just beating myself up for drinking that milkshake or eating 2 desserts.  The only thing that caused was dark circles under my eyes! This is the holiday season and all of us are only human doing the best we can. We all slip up from time to time. If you feel like you ate too much or had a little too much “fun”, then I suggest hitting the gym for a nice sweaty workout the next day. Its amazing how much better that will make you feel. And don’t get down on yourself–today is a new day!!!

Hey guys!! Happy friday! I find if i binge at night its bc I didn’t eat enough that day and I try to “make up’ for it by eating some chips…which turns into chips, ice cream, etc. So I try to eat healthy and meals within 400-500 calories so I’m not starving. Also I usually eat a snack before I go to bed bc I like to eat dinner around 6 or 6:30- I’ve learned to not eat in the kitchen or near it so I take my snack and eat it in bed while i’m reading so i don’t have to get up again…no temptations. i keep it small though like an apple and pb or yogurt or a pudding!! Jenna- quick question…do you ever eat instant grits? I saw them today and each Quaker plain packet has 100 calories and 1 gram of fat..my bf loves them and I wanted to make them sometime if they were healthy!! Take care!

    Hi Mel,

I don’t really eat instant grits….I used to eat grits when I lived in Alabama for a year but now I don’t so much anymore. I looked up the info on them though and these are the ingredients:
NGREDIENTS: SPECIALLY PROCESSED DEGERMINATED WHITE CORN GRITS, SALT, CALCIUM CARBONATE, REDUCED IRON, NIACIN*, BHT AND CITRIC ACID (AS PRESERVATIVES), THIAMIN MONONITRATE*, RIBOFLAVIN*, FOLIC ACID*.
    *ONE OF THE B VITAMINS

I don’t really see anything that puts up a red flag in my mind about these…They don’t count as a “whole grain” though because they have been processed, but I’m sure as a once in a while type deal they are fine. (better than eating instant oatmeal! haha) If you are looking to reap the whole grain benefits I would seek out stoneground grits at the grocery store…you can probably make these in the microwave as well but you would be getting a lot more nutrients/fiber from them!

Thank you so much for this post. I’ve been doing it a lot this time of year where I go overboard and then kind of freak out at myself, and it really is just causing more stress than good. I agree, I usually find if I binge it is because I either under ate for the day or that I’ve been denying my sweet-tooth cravings, and thus go overboard.
