Thank you so much for this post. I've been doing it a lot this time of year where I go overboard and then kind of freak out at myself, and it really is just causing more stress than good. I agree, I usually find if I binge it is because I either under ate for the day or that I've been denying my sweet-tooth cravings, and thus go overboard.

Usually I would love to have a delicious omelet for lunch! However my body is really not happy with me today and I've had a sour stomach since I've woke up. I think it's because I really haven't had that many sweets in a long time so the it's not sure how to break everything down. Anyway, I want to thank you, Jenna, Tiffany, and Mel for your kind and encouraging words. I may not feel so good physically but mentally I am a lot better! Your words really resonated with me and you're all completely right, I'm so lucky to have gotten advice from such helpful people! I ate a light, nutritious breakfast and got the gym for an intense hour workout. Tah-dah! Tomorrow is long behind me and I can be healthy without being perfect. Forgiving myself for my mistakes is a big problem I have in all aspects of my life, but I'm working on it, and with all your much-appreciated support I know that I can achieve what I put my mind to, maintaining a healthy diet and lifestyle :) I cannot thank you all enough for everything! Happy holidays to all!

Hi Mel,

I don't really eat instant grits....I used to eat grits when I lived in Alabama for a year but now I don't so much anymore. I looked up the info on them though and these are the ingredients:
NGREDIENTS: SPECIALLY PROCESSED DEGERMINATED WHITE CORN GRITS, SALT, CALCIUM CARBONATE, REDUCED IRON, NIACIN*, BHT AND CITRIC ACID (AS PRESERVATIVES), THIAMIN MONONITRATE*, RIBOFLAVIN*, FOLIC ACID*.
*ONE OF THE B VITAMINS

I don't really see anything that puts up a red flag in my mind about these...They don't count as a "whole grain" though because they have been processed, but I'm sure as a once in a while type deal they are fine. (better than eating instant oatmeal! haha) If you are looking to reap the whole grain benefits I would seek out stoneground grits at the grocery store...you can probably make these in the microwave as well but you would be getting a lot more nutrients/fiber from them!

Hey guys!! Happy friday! I find if i binge at night its bc I didn't eat enough that day and I try to "make up' for it by eating some chips...which turns into chips, ice cream, etc. So I try to eat healthy and meals within 400-500 calories so I'm not starving. Also I usually eat a snack before I go to bed bc I like to eat dinner around 6 or 6:30- I've learned to not eat in the kitchen or near it so I take my snack and eat it in bed while i'm reading so i don't have to get up again...no temptations. i keep it small though like an apple and pb or yogurt or a pudding!! Jenna- quick question...do you ever eat instant grits? I saw them today and each Quaker plain packet has 100 calories and 1 gram of fat..my bf loves them and I wanted to make them sometime if they were healthy!! Take care!

Hey Danielle-

I just wanted to say that you are not alone!! I have had a night like yours for 3 days in a row!! Good all day and then just eating all evening! I will say that I totally agree with the idea that you have to think of today as a new day! I think that for me it is all mental. I try to overcompensate for a "bad" evening, and then for no reason do it again. My focus today is MOVING FORWARD! Being healthy is my ultimate goal. I want to eat healthy, filling foods so that I don't want to just eat and eat. I already worked out today and that makes me feel better too! I think sometimes if I am not satisfied with a meal I just go nuts- which is what happened last night. I didn't like my dinner (although I kept eating it) and then after that just kept snacking. And having kids around is hard- even if you are giving them a healthy snack it is hard to not have some too. Those calories really add up!

I also get my inspiration for good meals from Kath and this blog. I am so impressed how each meal is really enjoyed. One mistake I make is eating my dinner while I cook for my husband and kids- then I miss out on the feeling of having a meal- sitting down and enjoying it.

Okay, after writing all that I feel even more focused! Thanks for such an inspiring blog (and a place for us all to share). Merry Christmas!
